Shimla is a city, hill station and capital of country Himachal Pradesh, India. One fruit has changed the life of people in the state of Shimla. Earlier native people were poor and worked in the fields to fed their kids and themselves by harvesting Capsicum, Peas, Potatoes and several other vegetables. But apple brought from America in 1920, increased by Samuel Evans Stokes proved a blessing and brought prosperity for the people of this nation. Having done plenty of hard work in sun and rain they fed their families. Life was harsh and hard for them as the roads weren’t developed then. No doubt despite of the hardship they were happy and content but money was still needed for daily needs. Living in their wooden built houses without having modern facility like water distribution, gas power – they had to face daily hardships.
The revolution of the red fruit has altered the financial condition of native people and the state. Apples from Shimla are grown in abundance and sold all around the country and abroad. People today earn millions of rupees and have built strong large concrete houses (wooden houses now are being replaced by concrete houses since people gain so much money by selling apples) equipped with all modern furniture and household substances.
It’s difficult to have production of succulent apple in abundance. Apple tree requires particular attention and hard work during the year as it requires manure and medicines which are important for the development of healthy plant. They must be taken are as parents take care of their children. Good fertile, drained soil and water play an important role for the optimum growth of apple tree.
The area of Shimla and nearby town likes Kotkhai, Jubble, Rohru, Rampur are large producing apple town. They’ve become so prosperous that they have their children studied in schools of cities where fee for education is quite large. During the apple season ladies like to purchase gold for themselves and daughters, while youth prefer to invest in on the world’s most expensive branded shoes such as Adidas, Nike, Woodland etc and on branded clothing from Cities such as Shimla, animals in the attic, Delhi and Chandigarh- famous for branded clothing.
Once native people employed themselves for work of apples but now they worker to look after apple orchard. Their work is to scatter medication on apple trees and feed manures to shrub’s roots. Apple season begins for May and lasts until September. Even labor earns a whole lot during apple season.
During festivals and fair, which in cultural part of native people, they like to invest a lot of money earned form selling apple production, online searching for union functions, local fairs, festivals and function. Almost each house from the Shimla region has a personal automobile.
People like to prefer Governments jobs. Some of them have begun investing money in purchasing properties i.e. lands, flats, houses and in Gold.
In Shimla apples are also known as red gold.
